A review of the Sony Bravia KDL-40D3500 HD LCD TV

Design

The Sony KDL-40D3500 LCD TV is 40 inches of absolute heaven. The frame is a smart glossy black with a cool silver strip along the bottom panel and with no buttons on the front creating a flawless and smooth frame. The stand is compact and sturdy and carries the screen well although it can be wall mounted and at only 11cm thick will look brilliant if you go for this option.

Setup/Installation
A very simple and straightforward setup with no complications. The on-screen menu and instruction are easy to follow.
Features
Sony knows what’s important for its customers and therefore has included user-friendly features with the Sony KDL-40D3500 such as one touch connectivity, Bravia Theatre Sync which uses only one cable and one button to use the home cinema system. There are also 2 HDMI sockets to make connecting other devices simple and easy to do. Other features include Live Colour Creation, HD 1080p compatible to display high definition images, 24p True Cinema, built-in digital TV terrestrial tuner, Photo TV HD Technology and S-Force Front Surround Sound. The Dynamic Contrast Ratio is 16,000:1 which is very impressive and some good results should be achieved from this, as well as from the Bravia Engine that is on board to create smooth motion, improved contrast, details and noise reduction.
Performance
The Sony KDL-40D3500 LCD HD TV is amazing value for money with the fantastic features it has on board as well as being a 40” screen from a major brand. We were slightly disappointed with the lack of HDMI inputs, although 2 are satisfactory, but most LCD TV’s of this standard do usually have more. The high definition images that we witnessed from this TV were of a particularly high standard and Sony always seems to pass the test in this area, with extremely accurate colour reproduction and detail. Black levels were good although not brilliant but certainly nothing to complain about. Image noise was not an issue either as this was dramatically reduced by the Bravia Engine leaving a clear and smooth picture.
Overall Opinion
The fantastic price of this Sony HDTV is a great bonus as it is a richly featured LCD TV and produces some stunning images. Connectivity is not the best but will certainly do and the design of the TV ensures that it will look amazing in any living space.
